Hawthorn Leadership School for Girls
Last week I had a chance to visit with Mary Stillman, CEO of Hawthorn Leadership School for Girls. The school is a charter, begun by Mary Stillman to foster STEM education for young women. It now provides classes from grades 6-9 but will eventually encompass 6-12. As you know, girls have been significantly underrepresented in science occupations. Schools such as Hawthorn are an attempt to reverse that imbalance. Most of the students at this school are African Americans and there are no particular admission requirements. They are achieving remarkable results. Written by Paul Dribin
