Let’s Decriminalize non Violent Crime
The city of Columbus Ohio has taken the remarkable step of decriminalizing all non violent crimes. Strong social service efforts will be taken to try to change the behavior of non violent criminals. I believe the same thing should be tried here. The courts are filled with people who have committed victimless crimes. People are arrested or even serve jail time for some of these offenses. The State of Oregon has decriminalized drug possession. In my work as a court observer for the ACLU, I saw dozens of cases where people were incarcerated for mere possession. If we take the steps I suggest, police can concentrate on stopping violent crime. Written by Paul Dribin
